Zoey (born on July 14, 1986) is the daughter of an unnamed doe who is her mother and an unnamed buck who is her father. See row 6 in template. She is the best friend, primary love interest, and later doefriend/mate of Rudolph and the deuteragonist in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie and it's sequel book Rudolph Saves The Sprites.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie[]
As a Yearling[]
She is shown at the start of the film as a yearling doe at school in Mrs. Prancer's class with Rudolph and his cousin Arrow. She is seen answering Mrs. Prancer's question about The Junior Reindeer Games and is the only reindeer in class (other than Mrs. Prancer) who doesn't bully Rudolph.
She is later seen at the launch with her parents on Christmas Eve, watching Santa leave for his annual trip. She later meets up with Rudolph and asks to go for a walk, but not before she listens in on his acceptance speech, in which she is honored as the "doe of his dreams." She tells him that she wants to be his friend and that she doesn't care what others think, as she thinks Rudolph's nose is unique like him. She motions him to the mistletoe. The two then notice that they are under a mistletoe to which Zoey tells Rudolph that it means, he has to kiss her. Zoey couldn't wait for Rudolph to kiss her. One of Rudolph's dreams almost came true, their lips touching each other by the time Arrow appeared. Zoey then tells Arrow not to get jealous. Arrow denies being jealous of "Ruddy the Red-Nose Reject" and Arrow looked very jealous. He called Zoey to go with him. Zoey didn't want to go at all, but it was a must. Arrow calls Rudolph a loser as he leaves. Zoey smiles kindly back, thus showing that Rudolph is her true love. Rudolph also realizes what that smile means, and he jumps around in joy.
As a Teenager[]
Zoey and Rudolph take part in The Junior Reindeer Games event The Sleigh Race. Before the race, Zoey gives Rudolph her pendant for good luck and gives him a kiss on the cheek which causes Rudolph to blush and his nose to glow. Rudolph and his elf rider Doggle win the race whilst Zoey comes second, but the celebrations are cut short when the referee disqualifies Rudolph for using his red nose to "cheat" and cause Arrow and the other racers to crash into each other and makes Arrow winner instead. But Zoey knows that it was Arrow who taunted Rudolph that caused his nose to unintentionally light up and caused Arrow to crash and the other racer crash into him and confronts Arrow for this and breaks up with him. Afterwards, Zoey returns home and sings Show Me The Light before going to Rudolph's house to talk to him, presumably to admit her feelings for him. But when she gets there, Rudolph's father Blitzen tells her that Rudolph ran away. Saddened by this, Zoey sets off to find him and is forced to cross Stormella's off limits bridge causing her to be captured by Stormella.
Whilst in her cell, Zoey once again sings Show Me The Light and to her surprise, Rudolph arrives with Leonard, a polar bear he befriended, but before they can free her, Stormella arrives and imprisons them too. After Stormella leaves to create her storm, Zoey blames herself for the incident as she crossed the bridge, but Rudolph believes it's his fault as he ran away. Zoey then tells Rudolph that he wouldn't have run away if she told him that he means everything to her to which Rudolph tells Zoey that she makes his heart glow (and from now on, they have a love affair). After being freed by Rudolph's other friend, an arctic fox named Slyly, the group make their escape, but they are confronted by Stormella and her wolves. When Stormella prepares to attack Zoey, Rudolph jumps in front of her to protect his love and his nose lights up which then causes Stormella to fall down a cliff side. After Rudolph and the others rescue Stormella, she turns from bad to good. The group makes their way home and are found by Doggle and Boone (who had been sent out by Santa to find Rudolph and Zoey) who bring them back to Santa's Village. Before Rudolph prepares to set off to guide Santa and the Flyers through Stormella's storm with his nose's light, Zoey, Slyly and Leonard arrive to wish him good luck where Zoey gives Rudolph another kiss on the cheek which once again makes him blush. Zoey along with the other villagers then welcome Rudolph, Santa and the Flyers after returning from deliveries.
Books[]
Rudolph Saves The Sprites[]
In this book set after the film, Zoey is now Rudolph's doefriend and helps him look for the Sprites of the Northern Lights after they fail to appear at Santa's Winter Celebrations to put on their light show.
She and Rudolph follow a path of glowing blossoms to Ice Castle where they find the Sprites in an ice cage and learn that Ridley took them to put on a surprise light show for Stormella as she is never invited to Santa's Winter Celebrations (due to her being wicked in the past). After the Sprites are freed, they put on their light show with Stormella as a guest of honor.
Description[]
In the film, Zoey has medium brown and cream fur (which is resulted by her mother's light brown fur mixing with her father's dark brown fur) and dark brown eyes whilst in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: A Retelling of the New Animated Movie, she has blue eyes and spots on her fur. In Rudolph Saves the Sprites, Zoey retains her blue eyes but no longer has spots.
Songs sung by Zoey[]
Relationships[]
- Romantic - Rudolph and Zoey
Trivia[]
- She is similar to Clarice from the 1964 film Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer as both don't pick on Rudolph and both serve as his love interest. Both also leave home to search for him only to be captured by the villain (Zoey with Stormella and Clarice with Bumble) but are later saved by Rudolph and his friends. She was also originally going to be called Clarice, but this was changed to Zoey in one of the scripts of the film due to some copyright reasons or issues.
- Zoey is similar to Faline from Bambi as both are deer and both are the love interest of both the main male protagonist and his rival (Rudolph and Arrow for Zoey and Bambi and Ronno for Faline). Both also prefer to be with the main male protagonist (Rudolph for Zoey and Bambi for Faline). However, unlike Bambi and Faline, Rudolph and Zoey don't have children together as Rudolph and Zoey are only teenagers while Bambi and Faline are adults.
- In the first draft of the screenplay, Zoey was actually named Bunny. The producer worried that the Chinese animation studio would take the translation literally and draw her as a rabbit, so he asked the writer to change the name.
- On the VHS and DVD covers of the film Zoey is shown with spots on her fur, but does not have any in the actual film.
- Zoey is the only one of the three young reindeer (the other two being Rudolph and Arrow) to not be the child of a Flyer. Whilst Rudolph's father is Blitzen and Arrow's father is Cupid, Zoey's father is a normal reindeer.
- When Zoey witnessed Arrow's laughter at Rudolph, because despite his red nose, Flyer wanted be. Zoey hated Arrow. So Zoey never loved Arrow.
